The Trust is set to implement the cloud-based social collaboration platform to connect more than 8,000 staff over its two sites
Manchester, UK, 19 January 2017: Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which boasts over 8,000 members of clinical, support and administrative staff across two main sites will work in partnership with social intranet experts Interact to deliver on a large scale digital communications project in 2017.
The initiative will see the Trust replace its existing 18-year-old system with a cloud-based platform to improve accessibility and collaboration amongst staff. The measure aligns with the vision for a ‘paperless NHS’, championed by the Secretary of State for Health as part of a larger government objective for 2018.
“Our existing intranet was built internally on what is now an outdated system, and despite many updates, is no longer meeting the needs of our organisation,” explains Director of Communications, Myles Howell.
“We needed to upgrade to a mobile-first mindset, to support our dispersed workforce and connect every individual, regardless of their location or device. When our staff are empowered to crowdsource solutions and collaborate effectively, they are better equipped to provide the best level of care our patients deserve.”

With the support of Interact’s project and professional services teams, the Trust will eliminate over 80,000 pages from its existing site, while designing a series of workflows to streamline administrative processes such as e-forms and online ordering.
“We are constantly seeking new ways to improve patient care by promoting efficiency, productivity, safety and eliminating waste,” Myles Howell continues.
“Interact’s intranet solution will integrate with our existing systems and processes, helping to reduce duplication and overhead costs. As a user-friendly system, our staff will also be empowered to create and update their own content, freeing up valuable resource within our Web and Communications Team.”
The Trust will utilise tailored homepages to target different staff groups, including nursing staff and junior doctors. Through use of Interact’s social tools, mobile app and networking capabilities such as forums and team areas, the Trust is set to embed its new intranet into the day-to-day roles of its staff.
