Our Christmas Intranet Competition amazes us every year with the ingenuity of our customers. This year we had a record number of entries and were astounded by the quality of entries which in other years would have won. We managed to pick three outstanding finalists:
Gen, Lauren and Hannah at Bauer Media delivered a visually stunning background to their intranet, Media Vine, the silver background gives an incredible look to their site.
They coupled this with a company wide Christmas Jumper day with 100% of all donations going to the Disasters Emergency Committee, to help those affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines. This encouraged employees to submit Christmas Jumper pictures which were posted on the gallery, building on the massive success of their Bauer wide collaboration which saw them scoop Interact’s 2013 Essential Intranet Award at our September conference.
Media Vine was also used to highlight charity campaigns from their various magazines and radio stations.
Paula and Abbey at Dollar Finance built on their winning effort from last year and again have pushed Interact’s range of tools to engage and entertain their employees using their intranet, DORIS. They have used a whole range of tools create an engaging Christmassy intranet, even implementing a poll to find out what employees think about their Festive activities.
The Rewards tool is used to reward good customer service in stores, measured by their Mystery Shoppers, Paula wrote
We have turned over our rewards widget to Santa and his elves. They are rewarding our staff and stores for all their good work the 12 days before Christmas and are spreading Christmas cheer from ear to ear!

There are also daily targets to beat set by Santa’s elves, any store achieving these is automatically entered into that day’s prize draw. DORIS even has a top menu area called Tinsel Town dedicated to employees sharing Christmas store ideas, news and jokes.
Ayesha at FSB has used an image with hotspots to create an advent calendar with each door revealing time saving tools and content behind each door in a ‘have you seen?’ format. The calendar clicks through to a different part of the intranet each day to raise awareness of the different information available, pulling people towards mandatory reads like the intranet guidelines. It also has an element of fun to get people onto discussion forums on the 4th December the Advent calendar took users to Norris, a Cockerel that a member of staff had been trying to find a new home for.
Intranet pages featured in the advent calendar have been visited by over 30% of all staff, including content which is often harder to drive users towards such as governance pages. The Advent Calendar has also encouraged a greater use and adoption of #tags.
This was a tough choice for the judges. We loved Media Vine’s stylish approach, the breadth of DORIS’ appeal and the simplicity of FSB’s approach to ensure users are aware of what is held across their intranet.
After a lot of arguments (and a lot of judges removing other judges from their Christmas Card lists), DORIS won the majority, seeing Paula and Abbey retain their title. You can see more of Dollar Finance’s intranet in our next intranet tour on 16th January.
This year’s 1st prize for Interact Christmas Intranet is a Christmas hamper going to Dollar Finance for their intranet Doris.
Both runners up, FSB and Media vine will receive a bottle of wine.
