If you can keep your head when stakeholders around you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can listen when users doubt you,
And make fixes for their doubting too:
If you can improve and not be tired by improving,
Because ROI is where your board’s approval lies,
Or see others your credit taking,
But carry on without anguished cries;

If you can get hits—and not make hits your master;
If you can reduce clicks—and not make clicks your aim,
If you can work with frontline and directors
And treat those two groups just the same:
If you can see a process made easy when spoken
Twisted by departments to get buried in rules,
Or watch the things you gave your weekend to, broken,
And stoop and rebuild with intranet tools;

If you can make a homepage following your good practice,
And risk it on one series of user test groups,
And lose, and redesign with a renewed exactness
And never breathe a word about the troops:
If you can champion the idea of online,
Only to be told the preference is a printed magazine,
And smile against your every incline,
And ask if you can promote the intranet within

If you can talk with non-adopters and keep listening,
Or walk with thought leaders—nor lose the common touch,
If your killer apps aren’t all that glistening,
But your intranet still achieves so much:
If you can fill the travelling employee’s minute
And quickly provide resources for a sale to be won,
Yours is an essential intranet and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be an Intranet Manager, my son!

The new version of Interact Intranet Version 5.2 is packed with tools to inform intranet managers how their intranet is performing.
