Unify document storage and turn your intranet into a single search point with Interact’s SharePoint Connector

19th May 2011 – Interact, introduces the release of the Interact SharePoint Connector. The Interact SharePoint Connector is a dual purpose development that connects Interact Intranet to the Microsoft platform, SharePoint – making your intranet a single search point for your entire corporate knowledge base. It eliminates information silos, which are easily accumulated in companies with numerous SharePoint sites created by internal teams.

The easy-to-use feature unifies access, search results and document storage – eradicating the problem of prolonged content searching in numerous knowledge accumulations scattered across organisations. Significantly, it allows users to locate information in places they didn’t know existed.

Interact’s Product Manager, Simon Dance comments:

“SharePoint is widespread across many businesses, mainly due to the speed and ease with which simple document lists can be created.  However, this often leads to a profusion of small, non-linked sites with no central search – creating knowledge gaps and information silos. The SharePoint Connector tool means that users can now search document libraries across multiple SharePoint sites from a single search in the intranet, without the requirement to migrate all of the existing content.”

There are two main areas within Interact Intranet a user can search SharePoint documents – through a customised widget to meet your organisations individual requirements and via the main intranet search. The end-user can use the Clever Linker feature within Interact Intranet to create dynamic links in content to information stored on SharePoint sites.

Simon continues:

“By integrating SharePoint content, businesses can take advantage of the collaboration features available in Interact Intranet, including the Clever Linker tool, which allows content contributors to embed SharePoint documents within blogs, documents, homepage widgets and discussion boards. This brings intelligence and collaboration into your corporate SharePoint content and as these links are dynamic, broken links are a thing of the past.”

With the SharePoint Connector, users are able to edit Microsoft Office documents directly within the intranet browser, without the requirement to have Office client applications installed. Colleagues are also able to simultaneously edit shared Word and PowerPoint documents without impeding each other’s work, simplifying the content management process and removing the painful merging, overwriting and locking out of documents.

Interact will be hosting a free webinar to demonstrate the powerful capabilities of the SharePoint Connector on Wednesday, 8th June at 15.00 -15.30 (GMT).

The SharePoint Connector works with both SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010.
